Hatha Yoga—Theory and Practice
RYT 300-Hour Advanced Teacher Training
with Suddha Weixler
February 7 - May 30, 2015



Any sincere student interested in the art and science of Yoga will benefit from this in-depth training—those who wish to become Hatha Yoga Teachers, students who would like to refine and deepen their personal practice, gaining additional philosophical, experiential and technical understanding, as well as working teachers who wish to sophisticate their insight and application of Yoga.

The 300-hour advanced training is designed to build upon the fundamental concepts of the foundational 200-hour program. In addition, Trainees who complete both the 300-hour training and the RYT200 program may apply with the Yoga Alliance for RYT500-hour registration, upon teaching for 100 hours.

The curriculum includes:

    A. Theory and Practice of Asanas
  • I. Asanas of the classical Hatha tradition, Yin Yoga
  • II. Vinyasa practice and execution
  • III. Ashtanga Vinyasa technique, Vinyasa Krama
    Anatomy of Asanas: preparations/variations; serials and sequences of poses. Relaxation techniques, breathing exercises. Pranayama, Mudras and Bandhas.
    B. Anatomy and Physiology
    Basic principles. Technical skills. Yoga therapeutics. Prevention of injuries. Yogic internal cleansing methods, fasting. Diet and nutrition. Holistic health.
    C. Yoga Philosophy and Psychology
    Introduction into the different Yoga systems, including Raja Yoga and Vedanta. Mind, Kundalini, Nadis and Chakras. Prana and Consciousness. Meditation.

We meet on Saturdays, February 7—May 30, 2015, from 8:00am to 5:00pm:
February 7, 14; March 7, 14, 21, 28; April 4, 18, 25; May 2, 9, and 16. Anatomy Sessions are February 21 and 28.
In addition, over the weekend of May 30—31, we will retreat for a yoga and meditation intensive with an overnight stay at a serene retreat center nearby. The cost for the weekend is included in the course fee. The course also includes training in Anatomy & Physiology, a basic introduction into Sanskrit with a guest teacher, and weekend workshop of choice with an accomplished guest teacher, all covered by the course fee. Class size is limited. A $350 deposit is necessary to secure your space.

Participants receive a comprehensive manual for the course. Required reading includes hand-out copies of several texts, reflecting the classical tradition of Yoga and the non-dualist philosophy of AdvaitaVedanta. In addition we will use several textbooks during training. We discuss the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the ideologies of Ayurveda, Tantra, and other modalities. Our multidimensional approach includes: Yoga as a cultivation process, teaching methodology, Asana techniques, Vinyasa and sequencing, manual adjustments, restorative work, Self study (documenting a specific subject), nutrition, a practical, thoughtful, holistic application of yoga practice and teaching, and Yoga as a business. Additional coursework required for Certification consists of journaling, reading, practice, and community teaching.

The Chicago Yoga Center Teacher Training is approved and registered with the Yoga Alliance and the program is designed to conform with the National Teacher Training Certification Standards. After successful completion students will receive a certificate and are automatically eligible for Yoga Alliance registry.

Suddha Weixler


has been conducting Teacher Training courses since 1992. He is the director of the Chicago Yoga Center and completed his certification in 1984 in Denmark. A disciple of Swami Narayanananda, he lived in a monastic setting for 8 years, learning the classical system. He began his studies in 1978 on his first visit to India; he also trained in Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga in India with Pattabhi Jois on numerous visits; he received permission to teach by Pattabhi Jois in 1996. He is a student of Srivatsa Ramaswami of Chennai, and has been introduced into the Vinyasa Krama method of Sri T. Krishnamacharya.

Suddha is registered with the National Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level, and is authorized to teach by the International Narayanananda Universal Yoga Trust, Rishikesh, Himalayas, India. He has been an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1989.

The Chicago Yoga Center RYT-300 Teacher Training is is led by Suddha Weixler, E-RYR500, Director of the Chicago Yoga Center, one of the most experienced and skilled teachers in the Chicagoland area, based here since 1984. Guest faculty include: Shanna Linn, Pamela Hoxsey, Rama Vernon, Srivatsa Ramaswami, Manju Jois, and Paulie Zink.

After successful completion students will receive a certificate and are automatically eligible for Yoga Alliance registry.
