April 12-16, 2010 Yin Yoga is the relaxed practice of floor postures for three to five minutes at a time. It is the ideal complement to more muscular or “Yang” forms of Yoga. A Yin practice emphasizes the connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. In this way it prepares the body and the mind for longer meditation
practices. By drawing the student’s awareness away from the muscles and deeper into the bones a deep level of relaxed focus is achieved. It is the standard theory of both acupuncture and yoga practice
that the life force of the body flows through channels called Meridians or Nadis. Modern science has only recently been able to confirm the existence of Meridians. Research has revealed that the Meridians exist as
conductive fluid channels in the connective tissues of the body. It is the need to keep the Meridian tissues healthy that originally inspired the development of Hatha Yoga and Chinese Medicine. This course explores both Yin Yoga and explains its effects via the Meridian Theory.
