During this workshop we will explore the mind and body relationship by practicing hatha yoga and mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation can be described as a state of open, non-judgmental awareness of the present moment. Hatha yoga is a wonderful way to develop a deep inner awareness of the body and mind. In this moving meditation we will guide the body into the various shapes and postures known as asanas. Our mind will become aware of sensations and feelings as we stretch, balance and strengthen the body. The combination of the yoga postures and breathing techniques allow the body and mind to become quiet, still and relaxed. This workshop is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced yoga practitioners. Bhikkhuni Vimala (Judy Franklin) has been a student of Buddhism since 1995, first in the Tibetan tradition (Shambhala) and, for the last five years, as a student of Bhante Sujatha, the senior monk at Blue Lotus Temple in Woodstock and Crystal Lake, Illinois. Three years ago she received her novice nun ordination in the Theravada tradition, and in June 2010 she traveled with her teacher to Sri Lanka to receive her higher ordination as a Theravadan nun (female monk). She has two adult children, and when she isn't going to meditation practice, she teaches adolescent young women at a juvenile correctional facility for the State of Wisconsin. Jayson Warn is a certified Hatha yoga instructor certified through the Chicago Yoga Center in 2006. He has also studied with senior yoga instructors Richard Freeman, Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley and Erich Schiffmann. He has a genuine curiosity about the mind, body relationship. This exploration of the mind and body led him to Bhante Sujatha. Jayson wishes to create a safe and comfortable environment for his students to practice yoga.
